The
Dawn of a Dynasty
After
a slow start, the first season turned out to be a success.
Of course, as is the case in any upstart live-to-tape program,
there were numerous technical difficulties in our first
season. Though still new to the process, well-known guests
were booked, which is always a positive for a new show.
Lanny
Frattare, long-time voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates and
future MLB Hall of Famer, was the first guest in the history
of the show. "The Clarks", a Pittsburgh area band
whose last album was a success on a national stage, also
sat down for an interview. Dan Setzler of MTV's Road Rules
chatted with Ryan in an interview for the ages. Numerous
SRU personalities, such as head football coach Dr. George
Mihalik, visited the set.
The
self-proclaimed "King of Cable," Joel Goodling
of WIUP's "Good Night" also stopped by during
a memorable Christmas Extravaganza.
After
the precarious start of the show, some crew members departed.
Tom Foster, producer, was lost to his own ferocious ambition.
He opted out of his contract and signed a deal to be a plumber's
assistant, leaving the entertainment industry behind forever.
Sound gal Jackie Palmieri left for greener pastures. She
now works for WIUP in Indiana where she sells the show's
secrets to our inferior competitors.
To make
up for that, the show promoted Technical Director, Doug
Rizzo, to producer. A new Audio Technician, Vinny Karpuszka,
a long-time friend of the show and Program Director at WRSK
FM, was also hired. With the staff solidified, "Gettin'
Later" was able to focus solely on the creation of
a superior product. The best was yet to come.
