The
Rise to Mediocrity
This
is the season that put "Gettin' Later" on the
campus television map.
Semi-famous
Pittsburgh celebrities like WDVE's Phil Kirzyc brought the
show noteriety. Local guests included SRU Men's Head Basketball
coach John Marhefka, as well as professors who informed
our audience and made them smile.
The
show also gave local bands a place to shine. The musical
stylings of up-and-coming singer/song writer Tori Ambrosia,
as well as the ever popular pop-punk band Distant Future,
were showcased.
The
season finished up with a memorable and tear-jerking finale
when everyone's favorite person and fired professor Frank
Rybicki stopped by to share some words of wisdom. Laughs
were had and tears were shed when he bid a fond farewell
to the campus that made him the Rybicki that he is today.
Tragedy
struck before the finale when Ben Mitchell became ill from
a single shingle near his eye. He eventually healed after
sitting out of the episode.
The
writing staff retained their title as "Best College
Late-Night Talk Show Writing Staff," as voted by the
writing staff of Gettin' Later. Their witty combination
of high and low brow humor impressed both viewers and critics.
With skits such as; "Terrible Movie Sequels,"
"Staff Confesions," and the ever popular "Great
Jingle Contest," they blew away the sub-par standard
they set just one season before.
The
show also introduced a lovable bunch of characters that
took the nation by storm. The dirty "Homeless Guy,"
"Jesus Febreez-us," and Doug Rizzo's brain child
"Pimp Garfield" were all featured.
The
crew remained intact throughout the season and gained experience
because of it. The quality of production increased, though
still rough around the edges.
If we're
this good now, you might as well stick around to see what
happens when we actually know what we're doing.
