The
End of the Road
In the
sixth and final season, "Gettin' Later" finished
at the top of the late-night heap and established its place
in television history.
Sidekick Mike Reilly
and Devin Gallagher returned from their semester overseas.
Producers upheld the agreement to put Reilly back in the
sidekick chair, reuniting one of the most renowned comedic duos in the history of the universe.
The
remaining staff members forged ahead, and the show kept
improving in content and production value. Deon Poiner,
former camera person and writer, was promoted to announcer.
He brought a unique sense of humor and point of view that
had never been seen before on "Gettin' Later."
Pointer, along with Mike Reilly and host Ryan Muldowney,
parlayed their natural chemistry into numerous memorable
situations and comedy bits.
With
one of the largest writing teams the show has ever seen,
plenty of creative sketches were taped. "Beautiful
Douche," "Kissing Booth," "Where's Waldo
Now," "Bono vs. Jesus," and "Gettin'
Later: Behind The Laughter" were all taped for the
sixth season. A hilarious remake of 1980's sitcom "Perfect
Strangers" illicited laughs. This season also produced
"The Dance," which became an all-time fan favorite.
Guests
were beating down the door to say goodbye to the GL gang
during the final episodes. Most notably, Gene Collier of
the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette came by to share insightful
and incendiary tales. Several high profile professors, like
Dr. Bruno Borsari and Dr. Robert Watson, made appearances
to keep us updated on current events around campus. President
Robert Smith also made is record-setting fourth guest apperance.
Musical guests Dave Pahanish and Tony Lee brought the show
back to its roots as a showcase for local talent.
With
several key members of the staff graduating, including all
three on-air talents, producers decided to end "Gettin'
Later" at the top of its game instead of moving forward
with a re-tooled format. During a one hour series finale,
Ryan and company shared memories of their favorite moments
and aired new material. There were several surprises during
the episode, including a special apperance by inagural host
Ben Mitchell.
Over
the last 3 years, six seasons, 44 episodes, hundreds of
skits, and an infinite amount of memories were produced
at the Vincent Science Hall studio. Staffmembers are moving
on to other projects and the future looks bright.
All
those involved with "Gettin' Later" during the
course of its run would like to thank you for watching over
the years. They couldn't have done it without the viewers.Though
this chapter of their lives is over, the best is on its
way!
